Application Scholarship


The ADA Foundation has a scholarship program for students who want to pursue a career in dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting and dental laboratory technology.

The number of scholarships awarded by the Foundation of the ADA depends on the funds available. Fellowships are awarded to help with school expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies and living expenses.

The main objective of the program is to provide financial assistance to students of dental hygiene and dental hygienists who can demonstrate a greater commitment to the discipline of dental hygiene through academic achievement, professional excellence, and a desire to improve health general audiences.

Applications are available 1 January each year, the deadline for applications is May 1. Scholarship winners will be notified no later than October 31.

 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:


       Must be enrolled in an accredited dental hygiene program in the United States.

       Completed a minimum of one year in a curriculum in the area of dental hygiene, students can be in the process of completing its first year of implementation when it is presented. Students entering their first year of the school of dental hygiene are not eligible.

       Students Applicants must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0).

       A student applicant must be enrolled as full-time students, a minimum of 12 credit hours; (eg, the fall of 2007 - Spring 2008), unless requested by the scholarship part time.

       The student must be an active member of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (SADHA) and the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA).

       Graduate students must have an active license dental hygiene and maintain the minimum of a baccalaureate degree.

       Must demonstrate a financial need of at least $ 1500 by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

 CRITERIA FOR EACH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:


       FOR STUDENTS OF DENTISTRY

      The maximum annual award of the Dental Student Scholarship is $2500.

         The student applicant must be a US Citizen (Permanent resident status does not qualify);
         The student applicant must be a second year student at the time of filing the application, and currently attends or is enrolled in a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association;
         The student applicant must be enrolled as full-time students, a minimum of 12 credit hours;
         The student applicant must demonstrate financial need of at least $ 2500;
         The student applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
         Two forms of reference from two representatives of the dental school (ie, teacher or counselor) in support of the request must be filed as part of the application form.

       FOR MINORITY STUDENTS IN DENTISTRY:

      The maximum annual award of the Fellowship for Minority Students in Dentistry is $2500.

      The Dental Minority Student Scholarship Program reflects that of the Dental Student Scholarship. Some minority groups have been identified as under-represented in dental school enrollment. At this time, African American, Hispanic and Native American students are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

      The ADA Foundation Dental Minority Student Scholarship Program is funded in part by Harry J. Bosworth Company, Colgate-Palmolive, Procter & Gamble and Sunstar Suisse.
         The student applicant must be a US Citizen (Permanent resident status does not qualify);
         The student applicant must belong to the second year at the time of filing, and to attend this or enrolled in a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association;
         The student applicants must be enrolled as full-time students, a minimum of 12 credit hours;
         The student applicant must demonstrate financial need of at least $ 2500;
         The student applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
         Two forms of reference from two representatives of the dental school (either a teacher or counselor) in support of the request must be filed as part of the application form.

       FOR DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAMS:

      The maximum annual award for Dental Hygiene Scholarship Programs is $1000.

         The student applicant must be a US Citizen (Permanent resident status does not qualify);
         The student applicant must be a senior at the time of delivering the application and now attends a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association;
         The student applicants must be enrolled as full-time student, a minimum of 12 credit hours;
         The student applicant must demonstrate financial need of at least $ 1000;
         The student applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
         Two forms of reference from two representatives of the dental hygiene programs in support of the request must be filed as part of the application form.

       FOR DENTAL CARE PROGRAMS:

      The maximum annual award for the provision of dental care fellowship is $ 1000.

         The student applicant must be a US Citizen (Permanent resident status does not qualify);
         The student applicant must be a student entering the time of filing and enrolled in a program providing dental care accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association;
         The student applicants must be enrolled as full-time student, a minimum of 12 credit hours;
         The student applicant must demonstrate financial need of at least $ 1000;
         The student applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
         Two forms of reference, one from a dentist or dental assisting representative and / or one of a school representative in support of the request must be filed as part of the application form.

       FOR DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS:

      The maximum annual award of the Dental Laboratory Technology Scholarship is $ 1000.

         The student applicant must be a US Citizen (Permanent resident status does not qualify);
         The student applicant must be a senior at the time of filing and currently attend a dental laboratory technology program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association;
         The student applicants must be enrolled as full-time students, a minimum of 12 credit hours;
         The student applicant must demonstrate financial need of at least $ 1000;
         The student applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
         Two forms of reference from two dental laboratory technology program representatives in support of the request must be filed as part of the application form.
