Upon completion of this course, a successful student will have acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the profession of Dental Assisting at an entry-level position either front office administrative duties and/or back office clinical assistant. This course may also prepare graduates for entry-level employment in the dental field in related occupational areas such as wholesale or retail dental industry companies in sale, clerical, assistants, etc. Students will be capable of performing the following duties: Techniques in proper infection control, sterilization, taking of vital signs, preparing instruments and operatories for various procedures, place and remove rubber dam, place and remove matrix, prepare cements and restorative materials, assist the dentist chair side with passing instruments and suction, take and pour up impressions for prosthodontics, expose, develop, and mount radiographs, place and remove separators and arch wires, place and remove periodontal dressings, prepare and remove sutures and post-operative dressings, prepare endodontic materials, coronal polish, and identify anatomical structures of the face and skull.
