University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni (School of Dentistry)

Started in 1896 as the College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S). It was founded by five physicians and one dentist, Dr. Charles Boxton. Boxton was a legendary figure of early San Francisco history, serving on the board of supervisors and as mayor for one week in 1907. Originally chartered as a school with programs in dentistry, medicine and pharmacy, P&S focused its education program solely on dentistry in 1918 and operates today under non-profit status.

The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is one of the leading dental schools in the nation and has served the Bay Area community since its foundation. Their dental clinics handle 200,000 patient visits a year, offering low-cost comprehensive dental care to adults and children.

As the dental school enters its 110th-year in San Francisco, they will continue to build upon their strengths as a leader in student-centered education and to provide quality dental services to a wide range of people throughout Northern California.
