Medical College of Georgia (School of Dentistry)

In 1828 the Medical Academy of Georgia was chartered by the state of Georgia with plans to offer a single course of lectures leading to a bachelor's degree.

The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry is a state-assisted institution with the primary goal of educating dental health care providers for the citizens of Georgia. The ethical practice of dentistry requires intellectual ability, physical competence and personal responsibility.

The School of Dentistry strives to be a significant participant in addressing the Board of Regents and the Medical College of Georgia institutional goals by providing for the oral health care needs of the citizens. In order to effectively participate as a school of dentistry, in the Medical College Health Science University and of the University System of Georgia goals have been developed for each level. These goals represent the commitment of the School of Dentistry to our students and to the citizens of the state of Georgia.

The mission of the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry is to educate dentists in order to improve overall health and to reduce the burden of illness in society through the discovery and application of knowledge that embraces craniofacial health and disease prevention.
