According to the U.S. Department of Labor, dental assisting is expected to be one of the fastest-growing occupations through 2014, partly because dentists are hiring more assistants to handle clinical and administrative responsibilities—thereby giving the dentist more time to perform complex dental procedures. Kaplan College’s Dental Assistant Certificate program is designed to prepare you for this promising career field.

The dental assistant curriculum incorporates the clinical (chairside) and administrative aspects of dental assisting to help you develop the essential skills for maintaining an efficient dental office. The coursework includes topics such as:

• Chairside assisting.


• Dental materials and techniques.


• Office management.


• Preventative dentistry.


• Radiology.

The dental assistant curriculum can also help prepare you to take the Certified Dental Assistant Exam sponsored by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB), and exams required by the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners to perform extended functions and radiology in the State of Maryland.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a Dental Assistant Certificate. This program is designed to help prepare you for entry-level employment in group practices, clinics, and other dental health facilities.
