The average salary of a dentist is calculated by the U.S. government Bureau of Labor Statistics from a variety of sources such as Dentists working in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics and schools. The salary of a dentist varies depending on the location and configuration. Dentists worked an average of 40 hours per week, with a total of 2080 hours per year.

    The median salary is $58.86 per hour. Less than 10% earn $29.71 per hour and those on the 10% earn more than $70.00 per hour.

  ANNUALLY:

    On an annual basis the median salary of a dentist is $122430. The 10% lower earning is $61790 per year while the top 10% earns more than $145000 per year. These salaries are calculated as an average.

  HIGHEST AND LOWEST:

    The Dentists poorly paid, earning less than $61000 per year, while the dentist who wins best get more than $200000 per year.

  PRACTICE AND EMPLOYMENT:

    According to the ADA, there are more than 160000 dentists in private practice who earned an average net salary of slightly more than $174000 per year in 2002. More than half of all dentists are self-employed or in private practice.

  EMPLOYMENT DATA:

    According to the USA Department of Labor national there are 86360 dentists who earn a salary through jobs. The American Dental Association lists the total number of dentists, and it is approximately 173540.

  WORKPLACES:
