Dental school programs
After graduating from Dental School Programs, graduated dentists will be prepared to diagnose, treat and prevent whole kind of problems related to teeth, mouth and oral tissues; including both administration of anesthetics and prescriptions, according to the case of each patient.
Furthermore, they will also be able to extract teeth, re-establish fractured teeth, place implants, restore damaged teeth, extract thrid molar surgically, and treat more complex cases among many other procedures; otherwise they will refer their patients to other specialists.
While some dentists work independently or in private practices; some may work at hospitals or within a large group of specialists.
Once graduated; a vast majority of dentists are routed directly to the practice, while a small percentage of dentists rather to apply to some postdoctoral program, depending on the institution and country they choose. The most typical residency programs that dentists opt for are:
- Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD):
 This program implicates advanced clinical treatment of patients who require comprehensive general dental care.
At the sites, an AEGD program is one-year accredited postgraduate residencies in general dentistry with an elective second year.
The second year the program is more flexible based on pursuing individual interests, advanced clinical cases or research projects.
- General Practice Residences (GPR):
This programs is generally affiliated to the hospital, requiring the dentist to treat a wide range of patients including trauma, critical patients, and patients medically compromised.
Residents into GPR programs must be rotating various departments at the hospital including anesthesia, internal medicine, emergency medicine, etc.
The duration of both programs are basically one year, but the second year is optional.
