Dental specialties
Dental specialties are recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA) to protect the public, promote the art and science of dentistry, and improve the quality of care. The specialties are recognized in the areas where knowledge and advanced skills are essential to preserve or restore oral health. In the United States, Canada and Australia, there are 9 recognized dental specialties. These designations are approved by the Council on Dental Education and Licensure of the American Dental Association (ADA). Many programs have the required expertise or optional advanced degrees such as (MBBS MD or specific Maxillofacial Surgery), MS or PhD.
